This is an Hp 39 G
? without an IR port, but with CAS. The CAS is worth considerably more than the loss of the IR. This is what Hp should have offered worldwide with an RPN option.
Why? Because this calculator has the same CAS as the 49G without all the flag settings to worry about. It is a much simpler calculator to use for the High school student. And the split screen and other features make this a very user friendly calculator with lots of extremely complex features. Hp could have offered this to the US market and it probably would have done fairly well (well twice as well as the Hp 39 G
?, which isn't saying much).
It is more feature rich than the Casio FX 2.0 and a big step above the Ti-83/84. True, it would be allowed in far less schools, but where it would be allowed, word would have gotten out about how much better it is over the competition. Along with the CAS, you get the EQ Writer, which you do not get with the Hp 39 G
? (you only get an EQ viewer with the 39G series).
That is what would have sold this calculator. It is unlikely that this is still in production and Hp has not released any information about an Hp 40 G
?+ (though it would be reasonable to expect one, don't bet either way).
