Am I having another heart attack?
Heart attack survivors have a significantly high risk of having another heart attack. Statistics suggest the next one can be fatal.
Self-diagnosis of heart attack can often be difficult: Symptoms vary significantly (men and women often exhibit very different symptoms), whether they are severe, or in some cases there are no symptoms at all (silent heart attack). People often mistake symptoms as muscle soreness, or indigestion, or something else. These are also known as false positives.
The GUARDIAN is a heart attack monitoring system that reduces the stresses of living in fear of your next coronary event. The GUARDIAN constantly monitors your heart and alerts you to see a doctor, even in the absence of symptoms.
Nearly 1 in 3 men and nearly 4 in 10 women who have heart attacks don’t feel any chest pain at all - Healthdirect.gov.au
One in five people who have had a heart attack will be readmitted to the hospital for a second one within five years - American Heart Association
38% of people who experience a heart attack in any given year will die from it - American Heart Association
What is the GUARDIAN and how does it help?
The GUARDIAN is a cardiac monitoring and alerting device implanted in a manner similar to that of a pacemaker. Unlike a pacemaker, the GUARDIAN monitors your heart’s electrical signal 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It examines the heart signal for changes relative to your own normal heart rhythm, which may indicate that your heart muscle is not getting enough oxygen. If it detects such a change it alerts you to seek assistance.
The GUARDIAN can also detect events when a person has no symptoms or has symptoms that are not typical.
When the GUARDIAN detects a potential event, it vibrates alerting you that you need to take action. In addition to the vibration, it communicates with a pager-sized device that both beeps and flashes, letting you know that you need to either call your doctor or an ambulance.
The GUARDIAN provides peace of mind
Heart attacks are difficult to self diagnose with symptoms sometimes missed, ignored or not even detected.
The GUARDIAN removes the guesswork when it comes to your heart health, providing you with peace of mind and allowing you to return to an active, confident lifestyle.
The GUARDIAN's unique alerting function is aimed at reducing the time between the start of your heart attack and receiving medical care (called symptom to door time). The faster you receive medical help the less risk to you of heart damage.
