Venture capital firm OneVentures has backed BiVACOR, an Australian medtech company developing a groundbreaking artificial heart that could transform the future of cardiac care. With heart failure affecting millions worldwide and donor hearts in short supply, BiVACOR’s device offers a potential game-changing solution.

VC firm OneVentures managing partner, Dr Paul Kelly, said BiVACOR has the potential to be a world leader in the medical devices with its titanium heart (pictured)1.

This investment will propel the technology toward clinical trials and further strengthen Australia’s position as a leader in medical innovation.

“This could be [the] next Cochlear or ResMed,” OneVentures managing partner, Dr Paul Kelly told The Australian Financial Review. “With the aging population cardiac failure is becoming more prevalent. Cancer is being treated more effectively. Chronic disease is becoming an issue more globally. There are not enough [heart] transplants available. There is demand right now for a full artificial heart1.”

The OneVentures investment will fund the development of the external heart controller by Australian designer, Hydrix.
